The Next Big Thing!

Ah! Cute baby panda! I can't think of a better way to kick off my new blog about writing for children...

unless it's a kitten.

Anyway, enough of that. I've been invited to take part in The Next Big Thing. This is where I get to answer 10 questions about my work-in-progress. So,

What is the working title of your book?

The Empty Boy

Where did the idea come from for the book?

The story of Gerda and Kay in The Snow Queen. Their relationship was so strong until Kay was corrupted by the sliver of evil mirror in his eye and Gerda was so very brave to follow him to the ends of the earth. I loved their friendship and wanted to write a story as brave and determined as Gerda.

What genre does your book fall under?
Fantasy, I suppose.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Daniel Roche as Martin

and Georgie Henley as Hope

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
When Hope's best friend, Martin, loses his soul she ventures into an unknown land to get it back and save his life.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
Erm, hopefully, represented by an agency.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
It's not finished but it will be...soon!

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
Eek.

Who or What inspired you to write this book?
See above!

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
It's got fighting and scary parts with Japanese style demons

I'm tagging 3 other amazing children's authors:

Julienne Durber - writer of dark futuristic young adult fiction, blogger on Demention, illustrator and man of purple. Represented by Gemma Cooper at The Bent Agency.

Kathyn Evans - I am the woman who was so nearly good at so many things: belly dance, fencing, writing - not fire-breathing though. I never fancied that. I write picture books and novels for teens and 7+ and I'm lucky enough to be a funEverser. Any day now someone other than my Lovely Agent is going to discover my genius. Maybe. I hope. I blog here!

Sam Hawksmoor - The Hunting' the thrilling sequel to 'The Repossession' out 2.8.12  'smart, dark & gripping'. Check out my website here
